Research Experience:

Post-Doc
NIH Postdoctoral Fellow, University of California, Berkeley 1998-present
Advisor: Professor Judith P. Klinman • Accomplishments: Supervised undergraduate researchers. Discovered a protein channel that directs stereo- and regio-specificity in enzymatic oxidations. Developed quantum-mechanical models for kinetic isotope-effects.

• Skills: SDS PAGE, enzyme assays, bacterial expression, protein purification. DNA isolation, PCR, site-directed mutagenesis. Steady-state kinetics. Single turnover kinetics. Molecular modelling.

Graduate School

Research Assistant, University of California, San Diego 1994-1998

Advisor: Professor David N. Hendrickson • Accomplishments: Demonstrated that ligand-conformation alters the electronic structure of iron-sulfur clusters. Developed magnetic coupling schemes for metal clusters. Determined electronic structure of mononuclear and dinuclear transition-metal complexes.

• Skills: EPR, Optical spectroscopy. Magnetic susceptibility and relaxation. Electronic structure calculations. Anaerobic synthesis.

Research Interests: Bio-Inorganic Chemistry. Enzymology and electronic structure of non-heme Fe cofactors. Magnetic and spectroscopic studies of transition-metal compounds. Hydrogen tunneling and C-H activation chemistry. Teaching Experience: Teaching Assistant 1993-1994

University of California, San Diego

• Directed analytical chemistry lab sections.
