Goal: Minimize/stabilize protein structure
(segment swap onto smaller scaffold)
D1 domain of human CD4
(a major receptor for HIV virus)
Charybdotoxin
with hCD4 frag seq
Entry of HIV-1 into CD4+ cells is mediated by tight binding of the viral envelope glycoprotein gp120 to the CD4 molecule on the surface of CD4+ cells.
Binding is primarily mediated by interaction with a hairpin loop hCD4 within the CD4 protein.
Goal: create a small, stable mimic (decoy) of the cell surface receptor
