Question 4 was slightly ahead of schedule. To compensate, I awarded everyone 5 "bonus points" (this added to the question 17 bonus point built into the exam. Thus, the maximum possible score (attained by 1 of you!) was 110 points)

Exam 2 Note - Needless to say, scores on Exam 2 were significantly lower than I had hoped for. The exam was not an easy one, but neither was it so difficult so as to merit the scores that were earned. I'm particularly concerned that some basic concept questions (NAD+ oxidizes things, NADH reduces them, ATP either drives coupled reactions or transfers phosphates) were missed by a large fraction of you. I'm concerned that many of you aren't getting out of this course what I have hoped for.

Extra credit! - In order to improve both the score numbers and to improve on what content people take from this course to following courses, I am offering the following: on Thursday, May 10, I will offer a special 30 min in-class Quiz. This quiz will consist of a subset of the questions that were on Exam 2, modified only slightly to prevent memorization of answers. Based on your score on this quiz, you will be able to earn back up to 50% of the points you lost on Exam 2. So for example, if a student scored 44 on Exam 2, he or she can earn up to 66/2 = 33 points towards Exam 2. Thus if this student scores 100 on the extra Quiz, he or she will receive a final Exam 2 score of 77. Do the math for your own score.

A note about Predicted Total Scores above. Given the data in hand at this date (May 14), I made the following assumptions: You have the ability to move yourself around in this histogram. The final exam is worth a very large 30 points. Scoring higher than your exam average on the final can have a very positive impact on your final number! There is still time!

The following lists minimal set points for grading. I reserve the right to expand some of these set points downwards (in other words, allowing lower scores to earn higher letter grades), but I won't move any of them upwards.
